And then there was one puppy (our little Honey)

During the Easter weekend we said our last goodbyes to the remaining puppies as we have now found really good homes for all the litter (and we are keeping one ourselves and have christened her Honey).  We have met some really lovely people and have had good feedback (and photographs) from them that their little ones have settled in nicely. I am sure that there have been some disturbed nights but on the whole everything has gone well.  I hope that we will still receive progress reports from them as their puppies grow up with their new families and develop their own little personalities.
So, its goodbye from all of us on the farm and especially from Fern, Willow
and Honey and will just leave you with a few last photographs.

Sunbathing

The top photograph was taken one day last week and the bottom photograph was taken in the sunshine this morning of "Brian" our little boy.

Mixed feelings

On Wednesday we saw four of our little puppies leave for their new homes with mixed feelings - it was sad to see them go as we have grown very attached to them, but on the other hand they have gone to some lovely families and we are very pleased that we have found such lovely people.  We are confident that the puppies will have long and happy lives with them and will bring an awful lot of pleasure to the new owners.  Fern is no longer feeding them and nudges them away until they get the message that the milk bar is now closed.

Checking the plants

First of all I must apologise for the blurred images but I am finding it extremely difficult to take photographs quickly enough.  They absolutely love exploring and dashing around the garden - as soon as I let them out of their run they head off in every direction like little wind-up toys.
They are now having 3 solid meals a day of soaked Beta puppy food - usually at 7.30 am, 1.30 pm, and then about 7.30 pm. and after each meal they enjoy a run in the garden. Fern is giving them the occasional drink and they don't have to be asked twice !

Our Superstar

Last night we came across the Yorkshire Post article featuring Fern from last year. Isn't she lovely? Her puppies are doing remarkably well, full of beans and developing their individual personalities.
They love exploring the garden, sniffing plants and seem to be just as excited about spring as we are.

Little Monkeys

Puppies now having three meals a day but still supplemented whenever Fern feels the need to feed them.  They are enjoying running and exploring everything in the garden and we find  ourselves counting up to 8 constantly.  They are also being wormed for three consecutive days this week by adding the liquid into their food - and they don't even notice anything different as they eat so quickly.

Sunshine & Fresh Air

The pups have enjoyed a few adventures outside over the last few days.

Sunday Playday

The puppies had a busy day yesterday, they had a total of 33 friends and family drop in to play and snuggle.
It was particularly good to see the families of our last litter come and compare this lot to their own. Nice to hear stories of Tess and Ruby - their love of swimming, playful characters and loving temperament.
The pups came into contact with lots of children yesterday and provided our visitors with endless joy.

Preparing for the move

The puppies are really livening up now and keep tumbling out of their box whenever they can see Fern is in the vicinity and they think that the milk bar is open - even when it isn't.
We have been preparing the outside kennel and run in preparation for the big move to their new home with more space and we've got the lamp ready for the cold nights.
I've also given them their first taster of solid food in a very liquid form and they went mad for it !

Kennel club names

We liked the look on Fern's face when she saw the upside down puppy trying to get a drink !
All are thriving and beginning to play with each other (or chew each other's ears) and they are responding to our voices.  Its interesting to see how their colours are quite distinctive now.
We have received confirmation of their Kennel Club names and as I mentioned in an earlier blog the names have to be unique so we decided to use names which would remind us that the puppies were born in the year that the Tour de France cycle race  is taking place very close to our home and the nearby towns leading to the Yorkshire Dales and also incorporate various forms of "yellow" in the name.
So, their names (in no particular order) are: Peach Echappe, Sinopia Sprinteur, Jaune Petit Velo, Fawn Elysees, Jasmine Ajaccio, Saffron Soigneur, Charteuse Coureur and Russet Rouleur.

3 Weeks Old

Fern continues to be happy showing off her puppies to friends and potential new families. It's special witnessing the first moments shared between new families and our pups - bonds that will last a lifetime.
In between the cuddles and sunshine  we've all been enjoying watching Crufts this weekend.
